Running a business can often feel like a rollercoaster. There are ups and downs, and then there are moments where you feel overwhelmed and on the brink of motion sickness.
In this episode, I help you build up your resilience so that you can weather the challenging aspects of being an entrepreneur. Tune in as I discuss five strategies that you can implement today!
Stop and give yourself space
The best thing you can do when things aren’t going well is to stop fighting. One of the hardest times for me is when my cash-flow is down and I need money to make an investment. When this happens, the first thing to get affected is my self-care. I stop going for my daily walk, eating well and I was constantly working with no break time. But the harder I fought, the less success I had. When I put the shift back to myself and started taking care of and trusting myself, things started to look up. Slow down and focus on yourself. Ask yourself: “what do I need right now?”
Why find time to quiet down? It gives us an opportunity to process and strategize what to do next. When we have the energy and time to think it through, we come up with better results and perform better.
Change the story you tell yourself
When we tell ourselves certain things about how we operate, whether we evaluate if we’re good enough or not, impacts the actions we take next. This is why power moves are so critical in your business. We need to take small strategic actions each and every day to get you to where it is that you want to be. Stop telling yourself stories that do not serve you. Positivity breeds positivity.
Look at what stories you tell yourself. We need to see, acknowledge and recognize these stories that are causing us to have a lull. Then, replace it with something better that will serve you so that you believe in yourself.
Shift towards sharing
Instead of telling yourself that you are aren’t worthy – I want to challenge you to reframe the way you see yourself first. You must be confident in yourself and your business. Be clear and focused on what you can offer others and be ready to help. Try hosting a Facebook Live event where you can share your genius with your followers. Maybe offer a masterclass or open coffee chat time where they can ask questions. This is also a great way to see what common trends and pains exist in your industry and how you can provide solutions.
Ask for support
Where you go for help is absolutely important. Avoid seeking help from someone who has a track record of not helping and supporting you, downplaying your ideas or poking holes in your vision. Be aware of “smoke blowers” who tell you that everyone is going well when it’s not. It’s okay for someone to give us constructive criticism and tell us when we’re going on the wrong path, but it’s not okay for someone to criticize us with no intention of helping or believing in us.
Reach out to those who do have a track record of achieving their goals, and assisting and empowering others to achieve theirs too. Hunt for positivity and those who bring encouragement. Join my Women of Action Facebook group or any other network that will support and lift you up.
When things aren’t going too well for you, that is the very moment you need help the most. Don’t be afraid to seek out assistance when you need it. You can do it, but you don’t have to be alone to do it.
Every plan needs a strategy, no matter what facet of your business you’re focusing on. When asking for help, be sure to look at all of your options and create a plan of action. We can’t operate from a place of service if we are still doing the same things that don’t serve us. Be open to changing your approach to the challenges – sometimes a new method is exactly what you need to garner better success.
The best way to stay resilient is to work through the challenges you face using these five S’s: Space, Stories, Share, Support and Strategize. Dig back into self-care, get quiet, identify what’s going on and how you perceive it. Come up with ways to change how you approach it or ask for help. Be open to receiving that help and come up with a plan of action.
