Reflect on 2015 Before Looking Forward in 2016
What I also think is essential is taking a moment to celebrate your successes. Let’s do that together.
Look back at this time last year.
Where have you come in the year?
Did you meet or exceed your expectations?
Congratulate yourself for those goals that you met and celebrate the successes you masterminded. They did not come to you without effort and intention and you need to reward yourself with a moment of self-reflection. You did well.
If you missed your goals you need to acknowledge and give yourself permission to be right where you are. You are here for a reason and your work has brought you to the beginning of 2016. You have built the foundations you will need to meet your goals this year. That is success. There are no apologies required and there are no sad faces. Embrace where you are so you can build your tomorrow.
Let’s get to business!
Take a good look at your planning from last year and see those goals that were not met. Why were they not met? The ‘Why’ is essential. Knowing why your goals were not met makes up the milestones you will need to achieve this coming year.
Write the whys down. Give them space to be understood and think each one through. Those goals were there for a reason and if you achieved them, knowing why gives you the framework to continue your success.
You are probably doing things to sabotage your own success. Stop them by acknowledging them. I know it seems easier said than done but writing them down and getting them off your back will clear your mind to make room for the important work.
Take a look at your sabotage list. Are there items on that list that do not represent your strengths and are costing you time, money or frustration? Can you hire someone to do these things for you? Focus on the work that will get you to where you want to go and say no to the work that is not making you productive.
Now turn your focus on the things you have to start doing if you are to be smiling at yourself this time next year. Get those down and have them handy. Sticky notes on your computer, daily reminders on your phone and write them on every piece of paper in your planner. Whatever will work for you. Now, start doing them. They are supporting your vision and are pre-approved by you to get you to your end goal. Start having them work for you.

We began by looking back and we are going to end there too.
Take a look at your 2015 and what you can continue to do that worked really well. What fulfilled you, made your clients happy and moved your business to where you wanted it to be. Keep doing those actions and remember to write those on your reminders too.
Don’t lose sight of what is working in favor of new ideas. There is room for both.
Keep on track and on plan and continue the good work you have started.
Look back on 2015 with pride and look forward into 2016 with intention.
