No, not this Flounder.
More specifically, this flounder.
The flounder that happens when things don’t go smoothly, when your sales fall off, when you plateau, when you lose clients… when you lose your confidence.
I hate to be Captain Obvious – but growing your business isn’t always smooth. And owning your own business is not for the faint of heart. Even when you experience huge success, there will always be dips. There isn’t a successful entrepreneur out there who hasn’t experienced moments of stalled growth, or low confidence, or been on the verge of closing their doors. It’s normal. Welcome to the club.
The difference between successful entrepreneurs and those who close their doors – is successful entrepreneurs know to expect the dips and are prepared when they arrive.
What do you notice happens after each dip?
That’s right amigo… look at the direction of the curve. Up. You have to experience the lows so you can also experience the highs – otherwise the highs are just… normal. You plateau. Which means you are not growing your business. You are staying status quo.
When the lows happen, you have 3 choices.
You can either close your doors, retreat back to safe ground, or lay low and hope it will pass. (hint: it won’t)
Pretend it isn’t happening, put your head in the sand, blame everyone else for your bad luck, and remain in ignorant bliss with a dying business.
3. Take action
Lows are to be expected but they are also an indicator you need to take some fierce action and shift your business into an upward swing.
Here are 5 Powerful Actions to Take When You Flounder As You Grow Your Business
1. Realign with your mission
Know your WHY – and ensuring it’s rooted in purpose and passion is always the nucleus of your business. If something is askew or no longer in alignment with your WHY then shift.
2. Identify the Reason
Your business is dipping for a reason. Perhaps you are offering the wrong package, perhaps your marketing is non-existent or ineffective, perhaps your client niche has shifted, perhaps you have been distracted… what ever it is, figure it out. And quickly. Then get help.
3. Take Action
You will remain in a dip if you don’t take fierce action. If you know what is wrong, fix it.
If you don’t know what’s wrong – find out. And don’t stop until you do. Ask clients/ mentors/ coaches/ consultants/ networks for feedback. People love to help. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness – it’s a sign of strength.
4. Operate in Your Place of Power
Operate your business from your Place of Power, in a State of Abundance – there are plenty of customers out there for you – but you have to take action to ensure they find you. Being passive in your business and leaving your growth to the universe is foolish. When your confidence waivers then surround yourself with people who build you up and have your back. People who can help you.
5. Knowledge is Power
When you’re floundering, or your confidence is swaying, it’s time to learn. It’s time to educate yourself with whatever you need so you can conquer the lows and enjoy the upswing to the peaks.
